Below is a list of WEF events, activities, and grant awards that took place during the 2006-2007 school year as well as recent activity during the 2007-2008 school year. Please contact us if you have an event or activity that you think the Foundation may be interested in, either as a fundraiser or as an educational program. Grant Awards
April 2008 - grant award: Technology Minigrants awarded to: Kathleen Bendel, 5th Grade Teacher ~ North Intermediate School ~ for weather and forecasting stations; Stacey Benoit, 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher ~ Middle School ~ for Ancient Greece curriculum unit; Suzette Durso, Art/Photography Teacher ~ High School ~ for a wireless presenter; Brenda Galvin, Library Teacher ~ Middle School ~ for Showcasing Students digital camera package; Traci Jansen, 3rd Grade Teacher ~ Woburn Street ~ for Kidspiration software; Tom Kane, School Counselor ~ West Intermediate School ~ for Social Skills for a Positive Future DVDs; Maura Kilbride, 6th Grade Special Education Teacher ~ Middle School ~ for Mighty Math Number Heroes software; and Sally Lojek, 5th Grade Teacher ~ North Intermediate School ~ for a visual presenter/3-D camera.
April 2008 - grant award: Fund for Teachers grant to fund summer learning sabbaticals to the West Street School 5th Grade Teacher Erin Healey (who will visit Native American reservations throughout the U.S. to gather primary source items and artifacts to enhance the 5th Grade Social Studies curriculum) and to the group of Cheryl Cazeau, Diane Flaherty, Bob Mauriello, and Donna Rogers, all Shawsheen School 3rd Grade teachers, (who will embark on a road trip throughout Massachusetts to visit state landmarks in support of the 3rd Grade geography curriculum).
May 2007 - grant award: School grant awarded to the Middle School to fund parent resource materials and workshops to offer assistance with issues specific to the Middle School student population's age group .
April 2007 - grant award: Fund for Teachers grants made to fund summer learning sabbaticals to Woburn Street School 2nd Grade Teacher Kristen Tozza to explore the Grand Canyon and High School Social Studies Teacher Tracey Kassin to travel to Alaska. These teachers will be using their experiences to enhance their classroom teaching within the framework of the Wilmington School District curriculum.
January 2007 - grant award: to help sponsor Deana's Fund bully-prevention program presented to 2nd, 4th and 8th graders.
November 2006 - grant award: to partially fund nationally-known key note speaker Dr. Douglas Reeves at Wilmington faculty's first full-day Professional Development Day. Dr. Reeves presented his research focussing on using observed data to better inform instruction in the classroom.
October 2006 - grant award: to help fund a technology mini-grant program which allowed faculty to purchase and evaluate various software packages and hardware equipment for use in improving classroom instruction and effectiveness.
September 2006 - grant award: to contribute to the Frank Sullivan music scholarship endowment sponsored by the Wilmington School/Business Partnership.
Events and Activities
June 2008 - activity: End of Year Teacher Tribute program. $2,125 raised to fund future grant opportunities.
April 2008 - activity: Parents Night Out Vendor Fair. Raise ~ $1,250 to fund future grant opportunities.
February 2008 - activity: Election Day Bake Sale. Raised ~ $475 to fund future grant opportunities.
December 2007 - activity: Holiday Teacher Tribute program. 55 teachers and 1 teacher's assistant honored by students' families and $1,925 raised.
June 2007 - activity:
Barnes & Noble Book Fair. Raised ~ $600 to fund future grant opportunities.
June 2007 - activity: school-year-end Teacher Tribute program. 59 teachers honored by students' families and $2,000 raised.
February 2007 - event:
Ball in the House family concert raised $6,200 to fund future grant opportunities.
December 2006 - activity: holiday and calendar-year-end Teacher Tribute program. 49 teachers were honored by students' families and $1,500 was raised.
